Sample letter on Marriage Protection Amendment

Despite the overwhelming passage of 18 state constitutional marriage amendments, the threat of activist judges imposing legalized homosexual marriage presents an imminent threat to the stability of the family and well-being of future generations.
Unless the country passes a federal amendment to the U.S. Constitution protecting marriage between one man and one woman, the Supreme Court may very well issue the final decision on same-sex marriage. In the 2003 Lawrence v. Texas decision, the high court made clear its intentions to create the right for homosexuals to marry.
If same-sex marriage is legalized, the traditional family will cease to exist, inflicting a social experiment on our nation's children by intentionally creating motherless and fatherless homes. Legalized same-sex marriage will force public elementary and high schools to portray homosexuality as a normal lifestyle indoctrinating children contrary to many parents' beliefs.
The sexual revolution experiment failed our children, creating skyrocketing numbers of fatherless homes, no-fault divorces, cohabitating couples and creating a void of stable homes with both a mother and father present. Now our nation teeters on the brink of another sexual revolution experiment. Dare we fail our children again?

Talking Points:

•  In May 2005, a federal judge in Nebraska struck down a constitutional marriage amendment passed by 70 percent of the people in that state. Without a federal marriage amendment, activist judges can continue to thwart the will of the people who, through the democratic process, want to preserve the definition of marriage as between one man and one woman.

•  The sexual preference of a minority should not force society as a whole to redefine the institution of marriage.

•  Marriage is a public virtue created to rein in sexual behavior and establish a healthy environment for the raising of children by a mother and a father. The government's numerous welfare programs attempt to remedy social problems brought about by the breakdown of the family. The government should take every measure necessary to build solid marriages and prevent further disintegration of the traditional family.

•  No scientific study has ever proven homosexuality is genetic; therefore, it does not fall into the civil rights category of an immutable, unchangeable characteristic. If we allow homosexuals to marry according to their sexual choice, we must allow pedophiles and polygamists to marry according to their sexual choice. Marriage will lose its meaning and become a playground for any type of sexual conduct.

•  If government sanctions same-sex marriage as equivalent to heterosexual marriage, public schools will teach children of every age that homosexuality is a normal, acceptable alternative lifestyle. Already, in certain areas of the country, the normalization of homosexuality is proceeding even among kindergarten and first-grade children.
