Two hundred thousand urge Bush to intervene to save life of Afghan Christian
(Tupelo, MS) - The American Family Association (AFA) says that more than 200,000 of their supporters have emailed President Bush urging him to intervene to save the life of Afghan citizen Abdul Rahman. Rahman has been sentenced to die because he converted from Islam to Christianity. Donald E. Wildmon, chairman of AFA, said he was disappointed with the statement by Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs R. Nicholas Burns. Burns publicly said that the matter was one for the Afghan government and courts to decide. “We understand that this is a sensitive issue. But if the U.S. can send troops to die for the freedom of Afghanistan people, then surely our country can use all channels available to keep Mr. Rahman from being executed by the Afghanistan government simply because he is a Christian,” Wildmon said. Individuals wanting to send an email to President Bush to intervene on Rahman’s behalf can do so by clicking on AFA’s website at AFA.net. “Killing someone because they have chosen to be a Christian is absolutely wrong,” Wildmon said. “This is not the kind of government and courts our soldiers are fighting and dying for.”
American Family Association is a pro-family advocacy organization with over two million online supporters.
