Sears Puts Merry Christmas Signs In Their Stores
(Tupelo, MS) - Sears has notified American Family Association (AFA) that “Merry Christmas” signs have been shipped and are now on display in all their stores. In addition, the retailer notified AFA that the “Christmas” greeting has also been posted on the Sears.com website. Sears was one of the companies identified by AFA as banning “Christmas” in their in-store promotions and retail advertising.
A list of companies banning Christmas and their responses can be found at www.afa.net. According to AFA, other companies are also making changes to include “Christmas” in their promotions and advertising. Lowe’s notified AFA the end of November that their “Holiday Trees” in-store promotion had been renamed “Christmas Trees.” Walgreens said that it was too late to change printed material this year, but that things would be different next year. AFA says Target, which AFA is boycotting, has stated they did not intend to ban “Christmas” and they might begin using “Christmas” in advertising later this year. “Corporate America is getting the word from the grassroots,” said AFA Chairman Donald E. Wildmon. “We expect a positive response from other companies in the next few days.”
