AFA donates $100,000 to 8 Days of Hope hurricane relief

(Tupelo, MS) - American Family Association (AFA) has given $100,000 to 8 Days of Hope, a project coordinated by Steve Tybor, Jr., of Buffalo, N.Y., and his son, Steve III of Tupelo, Miss. to help those in greatest need restore their homes damaged by hurricane Katrina.

“We are happy to announce our decision to donate $100,000 to this cause,” said AFA Founder and Chairman Donald E. Wildmon.

“These funds were given by our supporters for this cause. All the funds given to us in support of Katrina victims will be used to help those victims,” Wildmon said. “AFA isn’t taking a penny, even for administration.”

Through AFA’s coordination of an RV-donation drive for hurricane victims, AFA supporters have given 50 RVs valued at an estimated half a million dollars to victims for use as temporary housing during the rebuilding stage. These RVs were gifts, not loans.

The 8 Days of Hope project is a major relief effort being put together by volunteers who are willing to use their gifts and talents to help the victims of Katrina. The project begins on Saturday, December 10, and concludes on Sunday, December 18. The project will work through and with local churches in the coast area of Mississippi.

The goal is to bring together 500 volunteers from all over the country who are offering their craftsmanship, talents and money. These volunteers will work in roofing, replacing windows and drywall, painting and other chores. The emphasis is to help those who have been hit the hardest and have no money and no insurance to help them.
