AFA promotes ‘Justice Week’ to stop filibustering people of faith
“The Senate must vote to restore the Constitutional standard of a simple majority vote, or we can forget democracy.” – Donald Wildmon, Chairman of American Family Association
(Tupelo, MS) - American Family Association and other pro-family groups are encouraging supporters to call their senators during “Justice Week” starting Monday, April 25, and voice their opinion on the judicial filibustering of conservative appellate court nominees.
“A minority of 40 senators and their liberal, activist cohorts on the bench are forcing their agenda on every American while setting the precedent that a devout Christian is unfit and automatically disqualified as a federal judge,” said Donald Wildmon, chairman of AFA.
A judicial nominee with clear majority support has never before been denied an up or down vote in the Senate by a filibuster. But now, ten of President Bush’s nominees with majority support have been filibustered.
Wildmon referred to Democrats Schumer (D-NY) and Feinstein (D-CA) as examples of senators on the record objecting to nominees based on the nominees’ deeply held religious beliefs.
“The Senate must vote to restore the Constitutional standard of a simple majority vote, or we can forget democracy,” Wildmon said. “No devout Christian who fails to meet the Democrats’ liberal litmus test will be approved.”
“The unprecedented judicial filibuster is a political method to block judges that disagree with the Democrats’ ideology, so they can use the courts to impose a liberal agenda such as same-sex marriage, legalized euthanasia and abortion on demand,” Wildmon said. “Liberals lost at the polls and realize they need activist judges who will force their personal agenda on the people.”
The number to call senators during “Justice Week” and voice an opinion regarding the restoration of the Constitutional standard of a simple majority vote is 202-224-3121.
American Family Association is a pro-family advocacy organization with over two million online supporters.
