AFA applauds efforts by Congress and Bush to save Schiavo
(Tupelo, MS) - American Family Association Chairman Donald Wildmon issued the following statement today praising Congress and President Bush for expeditiously passing and signing a bill Monday to save Terri Schiavo’s life and urging citizens to continue standing with Terri as a federal judge deliberates her right to live:
“We applaud the U.S. Congress and President Bush for working quickly through the night to protect the life of a vulnerable, disabled woman condemned to die by starvation and dehydration. Our hearts go out to Terri Schiavo and her parents as her fate now lies in the hands of a federal judge who is hearing arguments on whether she has a legal right to live.
“The long-term impact of this case is without precedent. Terri's husband, Michael, and his supporters advocate letting her starve to death because she does not enjoy a certain ‘quality of life.’ If they win their case, will the frail, elderly members of society who need constant care be the next victims? What about children born with serious physical problems?
“As Christians who cherish the life that God has given us, we must stand strong with Terri at this critical hour to ensure no court or group is given the power to take life away from innocent people who have done no wrong."
American Family Association is a pro-family advocacy organization with over two million online supporters.
