AFA supports appointment of pro-family leaders Brownback and Coburn to Senate Judiciary Committee

(Tupelo, MS) - Republicans appointed Senators Sam Brownback (R-Kansas) and Tom Coburn (R-Oklahoma) to the Senate Judiciary Committee this Monday.

According to Tim Wildmon, president of American Family Association, the AFA ardently supports both senators and applauds their commitment to pro-family and pro-life issues.

“Battles over judicial appointments begin in the Senate Judiciary Committee and Brownback and Coburn will represent strong voices for qualified candidates who have been unfairly filibustered in the past,” Wildmon said.

The recent retirement of filibustered judicial nominee Charles Pickering served as a reminder of the long, bitter battle involving many pending nominees and the unprecedented vacancies on the federal bench.

“The denial of allowing President Bush’s nominees a fair vote is a terrible injustice to the American people and shameful treatment of qualified nominees. Charles Pickering is one example of anti-religious bias in Washington that prevented the vote for a nominee with a distinguished legal record of service,” Wildmon said. “The recent election and removal of Senator Daschle (D- South Dakota) sent a clear message to Congress that people are fed up with the mean-spirited treatment of pro-life, conservative candidates.”

“Brownback and Coburn are strong leaders and men of integrity who will work hard for a fair and just treatment of all judicial nominees.”

American Family Association is a pro-family advocacy organization with over two million online supporters.
